And I Learned To Hate

In a world that have been torn apart by wars and hate,
and which have been divided by narrow domestic walls and gates,
I met a lively and lovely dove,
from whom I learned to love.

With the love that from her I learned,
for years, for her my heart yearned,
and I finally found the courage to say to her that, "I love you",
the three words that couldn't be any more true,

All the love that she taught,
were meant for aught, but for her naught,
so by loving her as deeply as much as I can,
I had greatly mistaken.

"Thou shalt not love me", with angry heart she said,
as if loving someone is something bad,
"If I shall not love her, then what am I supposed to do?",
I wondered as I had no clue.

Loving her was never in my fate,
and for her all I was allowed to have is love's antonym hate,
but how can anyone hate someone so great,
compassion and kindness are one of whose defining traits.

Hating her was not a child's play,
still, I fulfilled her request of hating her but with a delay,
rather than never, it's better to be late,
it took decades but I finally learned to hate.
